The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is India’s first municipal corporation, which came into existence in 1882. Also known as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) or Brihanmumbai Mananagar Palika, it is also the largest and richest municipal corporation in the country.
Over the years of its establishment, MCGM has been active in taking the challenges thrown by the expanding metropolitan area and growing population in Mumbai. It is the main governing body to see that the basic civic requirements and general amenities are being met at local level.

1. Maintenance of public health and hospitals through a dedicated public health department.
